Course on the Conservation of Anatomical Fluid Specimens

UCL Culture and the UCL Pathology Collection invite participants to attend a three-day course on the conservation of anatomical fluid specimens.  The course will focus on the condition issues and conservation of fixed human tissue specifically housed in acrylic containers.  The course will be comprised of daily lectures and practical sessions.  Participants will be taught how to re-house a specimen from scratch, including mounting the specimen onto a back plate and sealing the container.  Course participants will also learn how to change old fluid, re-fresh old acrylic containers, make an acrylic container, and choose the appropriate preservative fluid.

The course is taught by Emilia Kingham, MA, MSc, who is the conservator responsible for the UCL Pathology Collection.

This course is tailored for professional participants who have previous conservation and collections care experience or medical sciences backgrounds.  The course is intended for career development and to contribute towards increasing skills within the sector.  The cost of the three-day course is £450 and will be held in the conservation laboratory of the UCL Pathology Collection, Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London, NW3 2QG.  Tea and coffee will be provided but participants are responsible for bring their own lunches.
