Dear Colleagues,

A reminder that the deadline for applications for the Library and Archive Manager post at Iniva is imminent, applications close at 5pm on 15th August (next Wednesday). If anyone would like to have an informal chat about the role and the collection, I'd be very happy to discuss - do email to arrange a time in advance if you'd like to talk on the phone or visit the library.

This is a dynamic role requiring a wide range of skills, from managing the art library and archive collections, staff, volunteers, cataloguing, systems and projects, to running the Research Network programme. This is a really exciting time for Iniva, with some amazing projects coming up.

There is scope for learning some of the skills on the job. Applicants cannot be expected to be equally strong on all the criteria, but to provide evidence across the range, in varying strengths and combinations. Iniva are committed to supporting staff in training and support to achieve the standards required to undertake the role. I would also add that Iniva are a caring and flexible employer.

About Iniva:

With the Stuart Hall Library acting as a critical and creative hub for our work, we collaborate with artists, curators, researchers and cultural producers to challenge conventional notions of diversity and difference. We engage a wide audience, particularly young people, in discourse and debate on issues surrounding the politics of race, class and gender. About the collection:

This key post is responsible for managing and developing Iniva’s Stuart Hall Library and Archive. This is a unique specialist collection, with over 10,000 book volumes dedicated to contemporary international visual art and the underpinning critical theory, with a focus on art from Africa, Asia and Latin America, and intersectional perspectives (such as race, class and gender), and a collection of journals including many rare items important to the black arts movement in the UK. The Library includes a growing collection of contemporary artist and activist zines, and a substantial AV collection of artists’ films and interviews as well as documentation of Iniva exhibitions and events. The Library also houses an archive of artist, exhibition and publication files from Iniva’s history. The thought of our founding chair, Professor Stuart Hall, provides an important lens for the collection. The Library plays a significant role in Iniva’s artistic programme.
