Anglo-Austrian Society Award for Doctoral Study

The Anglo-Austrian Society proposes to make a further award for doctoral study, funded from the Otto Harpner Fund and the Angela Krosik Bequest, to a British or Austrian citizen from October 2018.

The award is for doctoral research on a topic related to Austria.

The award may be used for tuition fees or maintenance, or to assist with research costs (e.g. travel, cost of materials).

The award is for a student who is a British or Austrian citizen and is registered at a university in the United Kingdom for doctoral study.

The award to a full-time student for 2018/19 is up to £10,000. The amount of the award will be reviewed annually by the Society.

The intention is that the award will be held by the same full-time doctoral student for a maximum of three years or until the completion of the third full year of full-time doctoral study, provided that his/her progress is deemed by the Anglo-Austrian Society to be satisfactory. Renewal of the award for the second and third years will be conditional on confirmation to the Society by the holder’s supervisor before the beginning of the next year of satisfactory progress with his/her research, and that it is anticipated that the research will be completed within the period of the award.

The award will be paid in two equal instalments in each academic year, the first payable on 1st October and the second on 1st April.

Details of the availability of the award will be included on the Anglo-Austrian Society’s website.

Applications for the award should be made in writing to the Secretary, The Anglo-Austrian Society, 60 Brimmers Hill, Widmer End, High Wycombe, HP15 6NP not later than 20th June 2014. The application should give a brief summary of the scope of the proposed doctoral study, the name of the university at which the applicant is registered, and the names of two referees, one of whom should be the applicant’s academic supervisor for the proposed study.

The holder of the award will be invited to attend the Annual General meeting of the Society and to give a paper on their work in progress from, say, the second year of registration. The holder will also be expected to write an account of the work being undertaken which can be published in the Society’s Newsletter.

The name of the holder of the award will be published in the Society’s Newsletter.
