The University of Michigan has three  postdoctoral fellowship programs open this fall that are accepting applications from students in natural sciences, including the geosciences.

Fellowship application deadlines, eligibility requirements, duration, and mechanism of appointment vary (see details for each fellowship below), but all three of these fellowship programs are potential pipelines to tenure-track faculty positions at the University of Michigan.

Applications from candidates in the solid earth geosciences are encouraged. Any interested candidates should reach out to potential mentors at the University of Michigan to discuss their application (https://lsa.umich.edu/earth/people/faculty.directory.html).

The Michigan Society of Fellows, under the auspices of the Rackham Graduate School, was established in 1970 with endowment grants from the Ford Foundation and the Horace H. and Mary Rackham Funds. Each year the Society selects outstanding applicants for appointment to three-year fellowships in the social, physical, and life sciences, and in the professional schools.  We seek a diverse and international pool of applicants and especially welcome candidates from underrepresented backgrounds.
The newly appointed Postdoctoral Fellows join a unique interdisciplinary community composed of their peers as well as the Senior Fellows of the Society, who include many of the University’s leading scholars. Alumni Fellows of the Society have gone on to become distinguished scholars at institutions around the world.

PRESIDENTIAL POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS
http://presidentspostdoc.umich.edu/
Fellowship Period: September 1, 2019 – August 31, 2021
Application Deadline: Thursday, November 1, 2018

In 2011, the University of Michigan joined in a collaborative partnership with the University of California to offer postdoctoral fellowship opportunities at the University of Michigan. In this program, the University of Michigan now offers postdoctoral research fellowships in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), economics, and political science, coupled with faculty mentoring, professional development, and academic networking opportunities.
The University of Michigan views these postdoctoral fellowships as providing an exceptional opportunity to recruit potential new faculty to the University by offering the possibility of either a postdoc alone or a combined postdoc and tenure track faculty appointment.
The University seeks applicants whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their research and undergraduate teaching the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education.
