Hi Janos, I don't see any depression. Just some upthrusted terrain as expected in the Pyrenees.

Hi Janos,

If I’m well oriented, 50k BRGM geological maps mention “your” faults… with antithetic geometries & high dip angles. Could be a graben with small offset… for precise kinematics, next time you will have to climb!

Cheers,

Cécile

Hallo Janos

Did you consider a compressional anticline associated with thrusting and an associated outer-arc extensional collapse structure bound small normal faults?

Greetings, Dirk Nieuwland

Hi Janos,

Hope holidays and climbing in the Pyrenees were great!

Talking this morning with Josep Anton Muñoz about your question, he said me that he climbed several times the north wall of the Vignemale and he don’t remember any graben in the area. This could be a visual effect caused by the stratification of the limestones that are strongly folded and steeply dipping in the area.

Tema: a small graben in the Vignemale?

Dear colleagues,

last week I hiked around the Vignemale massif in the Pyrenees, and wondered if the Piton Carree peak in the picture below was in fact a small graben bounded by two steep normal faults. The possible offset is difficult to see because the high grade metamorphics-marble contact (dark-light) is steeply dipping.

Maybe somebody who is familiar with the area could help me?

kind regards,

Janos
