Hi Nick and Vivec

There’s certainly evidence that patients (Hoffman et al. 2015) and doctors (Hoffman, et al 2017) tend to underestimate the potential harms of treatment and overestimate the likely benefits

Vivec, this awareness will violate the core principle of blinding of a fair test of treatments. I bet this way the bias will work the other way around – I.e. the placebo effect will more likely be rejected , while it shouldn’t as placebo effect it is not an exact equivalent to “no effect”.

It’s just a thought.

If a placebo effect of a drug is considered resulting from expectations of the patient then can we see the same placebo effect in a doctor who is well-aware about the effects and efficacy of that drug? I.e. can we see placebo effect in doctors?
