Dear All,

We received the attached NHSi patient safety alert yesterday and have been discussing it internally.

Within the NHSi hyperlink (https://improvement.nhs.uk/resources/resources-to-support-safe-and-timely-management-of-hyperkalaemia) there is a signpost to  ‘Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treatment of Acute Hyperkalaemia in adults’ (UK Renal Assoc, March 2014).

On opening that document, on page 4 there is a clear stipulation from the  ACB as follows:

We feel that it is disappointing that pseudohyperkalaemia is not mentioned in the Patient Safety Alert and are wondering what other colleagues’ views are?

Kind Regards,

Carys Lippiatt
