MRI Technologist, Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging, University of Delaware

CONTEXT OF THE JOB

The Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging (CBBI) is a core imaging facility at the University of Delaware dedicated to scientific research. It is equipped with a Siemens Prisma 3.0T MRI scanner, 9.4 T Bruker small bore animal scanner, TMS, MRI-compatible EEG, and MicroCT. It supports a wide range of scientific investigations through imaging of humans, animals and materials.

Under general direction of the CBBI Manager, the MRI Technologist is responsible for the operation of the Siemens Prisma scanner. The MRI technologist is expected to contribute to both research and training efforts that will include user training, screening and scanning human subjects, technical procedures and operations, data acquisition, quality assurance, and safety. The candidate will be expected to maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art MRI technology and equipment. The incumbent must have excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to positively interact with a diverse group of MRI users, and a strong motivation to learn new MRI techniques.

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate the MRI scanner. Scan human and animal research participants.
Participate in assessment of scanner performance (e.g., quality assurance), including calibrating and testing all supplementary equipment on a regular basis.
Provide MRI education, training, supervision, and troubleshooting for all investigators; explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations and outcomes.
Ensure continued state-of-the-art operation by attending appropriate training courses, seminars, and demonstrations.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of experience in a clinical or research environment.
Certified MRI Technologist.
Familiarity with human subject’s research polices.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to positively interact with a diverse group of MRI users.
Ability to communicate with MRI manufacturers.
Ability to develop and follow experimental research protocols to be adapted in multi-user environment.
 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal working hours, with occasional weekend and evening hours.
