Yes, it did. If you look thrugh Carrie's diaries (Members' part of the site) you will find a number of references to negotiations over film rights, actual films, Kipling working a film scripts, etc., some with US companies, some with UK companies. Eg. 7 Jan. 35, there was a proposal to make a film of /Aunt Ellen/, and RK worked at a script - but the project never came off. And on 5 Feb.`35 he was offered £5000 by Alexander Korda for the film rights to /Toomai of the Elephants /. That did get made, as /E//lephant Boy/, released in 1937 after RK's death. And in May `35, he was negotiating with Paramount over a film of /The Light that Failed, /which came out in 1939, with Ronald Colman as Dick Heldar. There was /Captains Courageous,/ too, with Spencer Tracy - etc.. /Alastair Wilson/ On 29/07/2018 14:15, Connell, Tim wrote: > Surely Hollywood took a lot of Kipling stories in the 1930s? > > Tim > > ___________ > Professor Tim Connell > > ___________ > 07754 48 46 52 > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > *From:* To exchange information and views on the life and work of > Rudyard Kipling <[log in to unmask]> on behalf of John > Walker <[log in to unmask]> > *Sent:* 28 July 2018 22:40:08 > *To:* [log in to unmask] > *Subject:* Mowgli > Dear film buffs, > > So the Andy Serkis film of /The Jungle Books, /now titled /Mowgli > / has been bought up by Netflix, and will be released on that platform > in 2019. > > I can recommend the analysis here: > > https://deadline.com/2018/07/netflix-mowgli-deal-andy-serkis-jungle-book-warner-bros-christian-bale-cate-blanchett-benedict-cumberbatch-1202434903/ > > Now... which Kipling story would you be prepared to 'pitch' to a > company (probably not Warner Brothers, after '/My Boy Jack' /went > straight to DVD...) > > Best regards, > > John > > > > Mailtrack > <https://mailtrack.io?utm_source=gmail&utm_medium=signature&utm_campaign=signaturevirality6&> > Sender notified by > Mailtrack > <https://mailtrack.io?utm_source=gmail&utm_medium=signature&utm_campaign=signaturevirality6&> > 07/28/18, 10:37:56 PM > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > To unsubscribe from the RUDYARD-KIPLING list, click the following link: > https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?SUBED1=RUDYARD-KIPLING&A=1 > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > To unsubscribe from the RUDYARD-KIPLING list, click the following link: > https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?SUBED1=RUDYARD-KIPLING&A=1 > ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the RUDYARD-KIPLING list, click the following link: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?SUBED1=RUDYARD-KIPLING&A=1
