I quite like Catherine’s suggestion, if setup correctly it should be pretty rock solid (ie. you could probably even check that the projector has turned, after you turn it on).

Another solution might be to buy/use a consumer universal remote like a Harmony Elite/Hub to schedule an on/off actively at a certain time?

You could probably also programme an external IR USB dongle to send the correct signals, but that would need some coding.

Hi Roger,

What is the make and model of the Projector. It may be possible to send signals to it over a USB or network connection from the computer to turn it on /off. If it doesn't have the ability to start up and shut down at programmed times.

Hello, I’m putting an exhibition in an empty retail unit, consisting of an artist’s film back projected onto the window of the unit.

It’s on for about a month, and I’m trying to work out a way of automating turning the computer and projector on in the morning and turning it all off safely in the evening. Essentially I want to avoid having to go to the unit and manually set it up/shut it down every day for the next month!

Programming the computer to turn itself on and off is fairly easy but the projector is refusing to cooperate… I’ve tried various things such as vvvv but no success so far.

If anyone’s managed to achieve this in the past, I’d be grateful if you could pass on any tips!

Thanks
Roger
