Karen and Ian would like to thank the many people who came, some from quite a distance, to attend the celebration of Ann's life on Friday 20th in Edinburgh. They now fully appreciate the high regard in which she was held by the Map Community and the major role she played in the MCG and the BCS.

 

They also thank those who sent cards and letters, many with interesting anecdotes - we shall respond but with so many it will take a little time! Please be patient!

Dear all

 

Ann Sutherland’s family have asked me to pass on this announcement and invitation.

 

There will be a private interment in early July but Ann’s family would like to invite friends and colleagues to a service of celebration of her life to be held in the Main Chapel of Mortonhall Crematorium, Edinburgh, on Friday 20^th July at 11am.

 

Please wear bright colours.

 

Thereafter, attendees are invited to the Braid Hills Hotel for a buffet lunch.

 

If you are considering attending could you please RSVP to me [log in to unmask] and let me know if you plan to attend the service and the lunch. This will help greatly with the organisation (and Ann would want us to be organised!)

 

 

Mortonhall Crematorium is on bus routes 37, 67 and 7 and is about 35 minutes from Princes Street by bus, 25 minutes by car. It is 5 minutes from the city bypass. Dear all

 

It is with great sorrow that I have to pass on the sad news that Ann Sutherland  passed away this morning.

 

Ann was map librarian at Edinburgh University Library until her retirement and was, for the last 25 years, Convener of the Map Curators’ Group of the British Cartographic Society.

 

Many will have met her at Map Curators’ Group events where she presided over events in an inimitable manner. She had a great knack for persuading folk to get involved and for making new attendees at events feel welcome. She will be greatly missed.

 

There will be a family funeral  but it is anticipated that later in the year a celebration of her life will be held in Edinburgh.
