Crispin, do you know if this apply when using QGIS with a spatial database or is it just a (shape)file problem?

Hi Anna
No, you can’t. Your tester can easily investigate this by running multiple QGIS instances. As far as I recall it doesn’t even warn you about locks and lost edits (though probably the behaviour has changed over the versions). This is one of many problems with storing important data as shapefiles… don’t!

You do get full multi-user spatial editing with HBSMR + QGIS. This means multiple users can create and edit the same “layer” at the same time without affecting each other. It also includes feature-level locking so you get warned if you try to work on a feature someone else is editing.

Best wishes
Crispin

Subject: QGIS question

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can have multiple users editing the same shapefile in QGIS? Our Council has decided that we are moving over to QGIS in September and there are often four of us editing the HER at any one time. Our in-house IT tester is only one person so hasn’t tested it with multiple users!

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks,
Anna
