Socialist Medical Association founding member and first Socialist
Health Association honorary President Dr Julian Tudor Hart died this morning. From this week of the
70th anniversary of the NHS, Julian's legacy will live on.
Julian made an immeasurable contribution to politics, medicine, and public health. As we all know, his 1971 Lancet paper "The inverse care law" single-handedly invented
the modern health inequalities discourse which has since become the subject of global politics, public policy and medical research. Thirty years ago, his JRSM paper "A new kind of doctor" made an equivalent contribution to our current understanding of primary
care. Rest in peace Julian.
