Lloyd’s Register Survey & GeoEngineering (LR S&G) are looking to recruit a full-time Geospatial Engineer to support in-house and third party geospatial services and applications focussed on marine operations within the offshore energy sector. The role will be based at LR’s office in Bath.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

•             Part of a small and focussed technical team, providing technical support to the design, development and maintenance of in-house web mapping services and solutions, and associated web-applications.

•             Work closely with LR S&G’s Geospatial Architect to support delivery of new "geo-services" and web mapping solutions such as LR’s client-facing web mapping application (IRIS).

•             Over time, achieve increasing capability to support the maintenance of the existing IRIS infrastructure and code-base, front and back end; liaising with external software developers as required.

•             Geospatial database administration (PostgreSQL/PostGIS).

•             Generate OGC compliant web services, such as WMS/WFS (Geoserver) and WM(T)S/TMS (MapProxy).

•             Create map visualisations (Cartography) - both desktop and web-based (Mapnik, MVT Styling).

•             Generate and maintain technical specifications and geospatial documentation.

•             Identify and implement improvements and enhancements to the IRIS web applications and existing geospatial workflows.

•             Data handling and conversion of geo-survey related data, DTM/raster, vector, point-cloud, CAD, GIS.

•             Support department ‘project work’ using desktop applications and tools e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL / OGR

 

Technical/Professional Qualifications/Requirements:

 

•             Qualification in GIS or a related technical discipline to BSc or MSc level

•             Advanced experience using desktop GIS applications such as ArcGIS, QGIS and/or GRASS

•             Solid foundation in geospatial programming and automation eg Python

•             Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL) with spatially-enabled SQL database applications.

•             Experience with NoSQL (eg MongoDB) databases desirable.

•             Experience with GeoServer and/or MapServer to deliver web services

•             Experience serving geospatial tile solutions. Eg MapProxy. Experience with vector tiles desirable.

•             Experience with front end geospatial mapping libraries, e.g. MapBox GL JS, OpenLayers, Leaflet.

•             Familiarity with HTML5 and front end JavaScript frameworks and charting libraries eg Angular, React, D3, ReCharts

•             Experience with server-side maintenance and frameworks. eg Linux SysAdmin, Bash, Node.JS

•             Exposure to Cloud Solutions, eg Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform

•             Experience with version control systems eg GitHub

•             Awareness of emerging web technologies APIs (eg Streams API), web sockets, ServiceWorkers, PWAs.

•             A proven ability to design, develop, test and deploy data-driven solutions.

•             Previous knowledge of geodesy concepts and their application to geospatial data

•             Innovative and pro-active, continually looking at new ways of working and improving so LR S&G can expand our service offering to our clients
