Inga we do the same as Joe – the ‘legal’ name the students enrol with is the one used for exam entries and therefore certificates, but they can also have a ‘preferred name’ for use in college. However as our
application system is online and enrolment takes that info, we still have issues with students applying using preferred names and then once it comes to exams realising that they should have their formal one. Despite countless requests to check their
personal details on the database we still have problems with certificates. I’m not sure what the answer is to be honest.

Subject: Learner registration/certificate name
Hi
I have recently taken over running the Examination Department in our College and I have seen that the staff working here have been asking learners to complete a form on the induction day
asking what name they would like on their certificate.
This strikes me as a bit odd as I would have thought this would just be the name as entered on our College MI database.
Just wondering if anyone else does this or what is normal as I'm thinking of stopping this and just using or College MI database.
Thanks
Inga
