The following themes are provided as a guide for those submitting abstracts:

·        The use of simulation and case study work

·        Innovation in student selection, feedback or assessment

·        Creative approaches to engagement e.g. use of storytelling, drama or ethnography to promote learning

·        Engaging with communities and recruiting people

PLANNING YOUR SESSION

Your abstract should be written in plain language (for selection by a mixed panel of reviewers) and your proposed presentation should be designed so that it is inclusive, interactive and interesting to a wide range of delegates while provoking deep discussion.

We welcome proposals for sessions to be delivered in the following formats:

WORKSHOPS

These will maximise audience participation, focus on a key area of involvement practice and explore the associated opportunities and challenges. They will be of up to 45 minutes in length.

ACADEMIC PAPERS

These will usually share the findings from an organised piece of research into the patient, service user and/or carer involvement. Alternatively, they may be a theoretical paper that presents critical thinking in relation to one or more of the conference themes. Presentations should be of 30 minutes’ duration, including 10 minutes allocated time for audience questions, and may be timetabled to appear alongside similarly themed papers in the conference programme.

SHOWCASES

These will celebrate the work and impact  of a specific patient, service user and carer involvement initiatives within professional education, training or practice development. Emphasis will be on the practice of involvement, partnership or coproduction itself. Sessions will be of either 30 or 45 minutes in duration, and will usually draw upon the personal experiences of project participants, as a way to highlight a range of perspectives on the work (e.g. patients, service users, carers, lecturers, researchers, students). Wider discussion around key issues is encouraged, such that delegates have an opportunity to share their related experiences and learn from each other.

POSTERS

These will be on display throughout the conference, with timetabled sessions available for the owners to showcase their work to delegates.
