medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

*My research centres on the first prose stories of Britain the
Mabinogi *(history
of the work from 10thC to present day; literary analysis, religious/
mythological content, artworks, and political esp. feminist & nationalist
perspectives).
*The Mabinogi includes a substantial passage located in Gwent (where I
live).* I have analysed this portion suggesting a maritime economy
straddling the banks of the Severn. This uses the geography of natural
resources and barriers, together with literary texts. It might form a
seminar for you as it includes the Bristol region and its economy.

*A major political concern* is that this literature, the Mabinogi, though
easily available in good English translations, incl. online, and as a work
of genius, is not acknowledged as it should be due to its Welsh origins.
*The work is strikingly secular* which means I would like to know more of
the secular nature of the 12thC. But it also carries much material from old
mythologies.
*My key topic is Rhiannon*, one of the chief protagonists, who is a highly
political, strategic personage. The Mabinogi itself demonstrates a
remarkable respect for women, as well as other moral import such as an
anti-war agenda. It is however strongly hierarchical with no conception of
social equality for people in general.
*While chiefly focused on **the Mabinogi*, that is the Four branches, I
have familiarity with the rest of *The Mabinogion* and assoc. literature
like Triads, poetry, Chronicles, Laws etc.

I am a current PhD Swansea though I live in Newport and visit family often
in Somerset. I have only just discovered the email list though have been
in touch re events for several years.

I love to share my research to help others, and regularly help as a beta
reader, or editor.
