Come and hear archaeologist Dr Jacke Phillips present extracts from C18 and C19 books on ancient Egypt and the Near East from the Haddon Library.

Richard Vyse explored pyramids using 'gunpowder archaeology'. Campaigning journalist James Silk Buckingham reported on his journey from Baghdad to the Persian Gulf. Robert Mignan dug in Babylon in 1827.

Of Canadian extraction, Jacke Phillips has lived in the UK and been associated with Cambridge University since 1993. She is now a Research Associate at London's School of Oriental and African Studies, a Visiting Scholar at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, and a committee member of the Association for the Study of Travel in Egypt and the Near East.

Since her Ph.D. in Egyptology, she has worked in mainly in Sudan, Ethiopia and Greece.
