Hi,

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced GIS Programme to join the WorldPop Research Group at the University of Southampton. The post holder will use their technical expertise and skills to develop GIS software and programs to support the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) platform for WorldPop. This work will underpin the technical foundations for the Geospatial Reference, Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) project and WorldPop Research Group in general. 

WorldPop GIS Programmer will conduct detailed analysis of large, complex geospatial datasets using a wide range of statistical software and spatial analysis tools in ArcGIS. The post holder will utilize software development tools and web authoring tools to create applications related to GIS, programming with ArcGIS server, Python scripting, R. The post holder will also provide advice and necessary training to WorldPop researchers in use and application of GIS software to address research questions.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Solid foundation in GIS programming
- Knowledge and/or experience with one or more of the following: R, Python (essential) and C or C++(desirable)
- Familiarity with designing and evaluating IT solutions
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including technical writing
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete large volumes of work efficiently and effectively

You will work under the supervision of Dr Maksym Bondarenko, WorldPop Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, in offices in the city centre.
