Why study at the IGS?

Our research is multi-disciplinary across the arts and social sciences. It encompasses the culture, history, politics and economics of Germany in its European context.

The IGS belongs to a dynamic, worldwide network of 21 Centres for German and European Studies supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

IGS students network and interact with their counterparts at other DAAD Centres at postgraduate conferences, at summer schools, and on study trips. IGS students also have the opportunity to conduct research at other DAAD Centres, and many benefit from DAAD scholarships to carry out research in Germany.

IGS funding is available for students to attend academic conferences and conduct fieldwork.

The IGS has an outstanding track record of successful postgraduate supervision. Many current and former IGS students have secured research council funding for their doctoral study. IGS graduates are regarded as highly employable by the academic and business communities.
