Thanks very much for your prompt & helpful replies. Yes, I was talking about visible artifact in some volumes of the fMRI scan itself. So when you say, "I would try running the ICA and judge by eye how well ICA is separating things, as a starting point," would it be reasonable to say that if the DMN is a clear and separate component, ICA is separating things well and it is probably ok to proceed with that subject's data?
