University of Birmingham – National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Methods Fellowship in Systematic Reviews Location: University of Birmingham, UK Salary: £26,495 to £28,936 Duration: Full Time 2 years or Part Time (66% full time equivalent) 3 years Closing Date: 1 July 2018 The University of Birmingham is delighted to offer a highly regarded National Institute for Health Research funded Research Methods Fellowship in Systematic Reviews. The fellowship is aimed at those interested in a career in the application and development of this methodology in healthcare. It offers an excellent opportunity to obtain training and experience and it is specifically funded to address unmet demand for highly skilled individuals. The post will be hosted in the Institute of Applied Health Research which has an international reputation for research directly informing healthcare and health research methodologies. The fellowship combines training, both formal and informal, with hands-on opportunities for undertaking different types of systematic review; as such it is not specifically aimed at those with an established track record in systematic reviews. There will also be engagement with different research groups using systematic reviews and related methods to inform different healthcare issues, and exposure to a very active applied research orientated academic environment. This is an opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic and self-driven individual to gain an in-depth understanding of the methods underpinning systematic reviews and the application of these to different types of healthcare question (e.g. effectiveness, diagnostic test accuracy, prognosis, qualitative), output (e.g. scoping, rapid and full systematic reviews) and purpose (e.g. informing healthcare commissioning/decision making, clinical trial design). They will have the opportunity to gain more advanced knowledge and skills in areas such as information science and statistical analyses.
