Yes, Pete, we see that here too.

My personal preference is to use language like “Fully Supported” rather than “Managed”. The hook being the benefits of being in the “Fully Supported” club…

We’re aiming to use JAMF/DEP wrapped into a bigger service introduction piece for Macs – growing user base, currently completely unmanaged.  Some of the feedback from staff suggests one of the reasons Macs are preferred is to avoid any central IT service involvement, which is making us hesitant to call the service anything along the lines of Managed Mac Service, or equivalent.  Just curious if this is the scene elsewhere and how others have tackled it, branded it, and resourced the support around it.

Thanks,

Hi Paul,

It was more a sequence of events as we needed a replacement for GOOD to provide secure email access from mobile devices. MobileIron was chosen to provide this functionality and we’re looking to expand the features of the service throughout the next year.

From my brief understanding, MobileIron is aimed towards security and offers good Android and Windows 10 support and excellent iOS support. Likely down to the closed iOS ecosystem.

For MacOS we’re looking for a ‘Config Manager’ type solution to deploy OS and Apps as well as some configuration around printing and data.

Kind regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Was that because MobileIron didn’t have some MacOS management features you needed that JAMF did have?

If so, what were they?

We’re hoping to proceed with a small launch of JAMF later this year for MacOS only. We implemented MobileIron last year for Android and iOS and it has been a very successful launch. We’re fans of the product and if you’re committed to iOS as a platform it offers a huge amount of control.

We used Bridgeway Security (https://www.bridgeway.co.uk/) to deliver the solution and for our on-going support. I can’t recommend them enough.

Kind regards,

Mark

For what it’s worth we use JAMF for Mac management. Microsoft EMS (InTune, etc.) for Android/iOS (win10 laptops) is how we’re moving forward.

JAMF is great and when it’s not so great it’s generally because of the limitations set by Apple (so this applies to any management platform).

Having said that, we are going to be migrating to Ivanti End-Point Manager over the coming year in an effort to unify/simplify our management stacks. – The Mac management side of things was lacking in the product but now they have integrated all the LANrev/Absolute Manage tech, it’s a very compelling platform.

Cheers,
Dan

We use InTune directly for IOS management.

All,

(Posting this message to the Windows list as the equivalent Mac list doesn’t look very active.  Please let me know if there is a better place to ask this question.)

We are evaluating MobileIron and Jamf as tools for managing our macOS and iOS estate, (plus mobile Android devices in the case of MobileIron).

Does anyone have experience of implementing or using either of these?

Thanks,
Sarah
