Are you looking for new and exciting ways to share science with your
audiences?

The LearnToEngage Science Communication module offers a training
opportunity for botanic garden and museum staff from UK, Portugal and Italy
to help them build their skills in this increasingly important and popular
discipline.

The aim of this 12-week blended learning course is to increase capacity to
engage audiences with science and make it relevant to their lives. The
module will look at the theoretical and historical background of science
communication as well as current trends and approaches in botanic gardens
and museums as well as drawing on other sectors.

The module involves 11 weeks of online learning and one onsite week at Muse

*Who is this course for?*

Applications are invited from botanic garden and museum staff at all levels
who are responsible for, or interested in, public engagement and education.
We particularly welcome applications from staff in smaller organisations
and from those who have not had previous opportunity to participate in
staff development in related topics.

The module is a pilot and we will be expecting our applicants to work
jointly with us to evaluate and enhance these modules for future course
delivery.

Limited subsistence bursaries for the on-site week will be available to
successful applicants (up to €550 per person for travel, accommodation and
food).



*Learning Outcomes*

By the end of this module you will:

   - Understand the development of science communication as a discipline
   - Understand important theories behind effective science communication
   - Recognise and understand how to implement effective techniques for
   communicating science
   - Be able to interpret scientific information for different audiences
   (using standard botanic garden topics as case studies)
   - Have explored how to instigate organisational change for best practice
   in science communication at your organisation
   - Understand how to empower citizens to be more active in science
   - Implement simple procedures to evaluate science communication
   activities
