Dear all,

colleagues might be interested in the following event:

Invite to Yellow is the new Blackface part of Festival of Ideas
Actor David Yip is spearheading the discussion on the underrepresentation of British Chinese in film and television and will be joined by several key speakers.

Our event is part of a series of events happening in the UK around the lack of British East Asian representation on stage and screen. There has been much debate recently on whitewashing of East Asian characters in British Theatre (Orphan of Zhao, In the Depths of Dead love and The Golden Dragon). However, our event looks at the lack of representation of British East Asians on screen and behind the screen. The event called Yellow is the New Blackface and is a half-day discussion forum which seeks to create a conversation around the lack of British East Asians in the screen media.

* Key note speech by Dr. Diana Yeh of City University London.

* Rosa Fong will look at the whitewashing and yellowfacing on screen.
*
Award winning actor, writer and director Lucy Sheen will talk about how she and other British East Asian artists have pushed for fairer representation.
*
Chi Thai, film producer looks at the number of British East Asians in working the British film industry.

Professor Roger Shannon of Edge Hill University will chair the event.

Your contribution to the discussion would be most welcome, or just come along and hear why this debate is important.
