italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the event below has been rescheduled to Tuesday 15th May. Best wishes, Enza De Francisci Divas, Despots and Dancing: Screening and Q&A Tuesday 15th May, 7pm Andrew Stewart Cinema, Gilmorehill Hall, University of Glasgow This session offers an innovative cross-pollination between academic, artist and curator — a key moment when there is worldwide focus on gender politics and social justice. Using the restored Assunta Spina film as a stimulus, we aim to bring the debate on gendered image and the Italian diva as a symbol of modernity to modern audiences. The first half will screen the silent film with The Badwills’ soundtrack recorded during the Glasgow Film Festival. The second part will be a post-performance discussion with scholars from different fields. Confirmed participants include Dr Eanna O’Ceallachain (Italian, Glasgow); Dr Enza De Francisci (Translation Studies, Glasgow); Dr Melanie Selfe (Cultural Policy, Glasgow); Dr Katharine Mitchell (Italian, Strathclyde); Dr Alastair Cole (Film, Newcastle and Musician in The Badwills); and Shona Thompson (Co-commissioner, A Kind of Seeing).
