Hi Keith,
Some of this will be due to static, as opposed to dynamic linking of libraries, the rest will be bundling of the data files ( atlases etc ) and the fslpython distribution.

I tried installing FSL 5.0.11 using fslinstaller.py on Ubuntu 14.04, and it worked but the installation is over 8GB. My previous installation of 5.0.9 was under 1GB. The convertwarp binary for example went from 416K to 19MB. Is this expected? Did I do something funny during installation?
