Hi Katie,
The solution you are considering is pretty much exactly what we started doing at Salford last year and I was part of setting up. The only real difference is that rather than a scanned copy, our Powers That Be
determined that we needed to see the actual passport itself. We have the potential appointee courier the passport to us prior to the Skype call and then they can either collect on the day of their visit, or we will courier it back to them. Of course if they
live close enough, they can come and see us in person which negates the necessity of the Skype interview.
Hope this helps!
Scott

Subject: 'Right to work' checks?
Dear all,
In conjunction with HR we are reviewing our processes for checking ‘right to work’ – at present we ask examiners to bring their passports the first time they visit us, which might be the Board itself or earlier to meet with colleagues from
the academic department they are working with. We understand that we should be collecting ‘right to work’ information as soon as the appointment is concerned and we think we need to arrange a Skype or equivalent call with the examiner to see them with their
passport and then have a scan sent to us to sign to say we have seen the original. Is this roughly in keeping with that others are doing or have experienced, please?
Thank you so much!
Katie
