Hello,

Sending this on Jisc in case you have not seen it on Workplace.

The deadline for submissions to run a session/workshop at Membership Services Conference is this Friday!

Hannah, Rosie and I have had a chat about the sort of sessions we think would be useful based on our own experience, conversations we've had and questions that come up on here and workplace. If you would like to see something outside of these write in the comments below.

If you have any idea we'd encourage you to submit it and call or email one of us if you'd like to speak first. This is what we came up with:-

·         Accreditation schemes/reward and recognition for student opps - how to make it less admin heavy, what is the purpose and what are we trying to achieve with reward & rec? Ideally this will not be a show and tell session but more a developed conversation about how we can move forward with reward & recognition within the student movement and can we learn lessons from other sectors.

·         Academic Societies - again another developed conversation about what's next for Academic Societies. Theme's around growing academic groups, how we support them and the relationship between institutional support and SU led.

·         Training programmes - The cycle of training for student group leaders, what are people doing, is online training any good?

·         Inspiring democracy in student groups - committee elections & the barriers, why do some get it and why do other not engage.

·         Social responsibility and community relationships - off campus student group activities - changing hearts and minds

·         Engaging small & specialist/satellite campuses - how to deliver student opps on these campuses, challenges faced and solutions to overcome them!

·         Faith and Cultural Societies - supporting multi faith groups, faith societies vs university churches

·         Impact in Opps - understanding impact and how to build it in to every day decision making

·         Give it a Go - how to deliver a programme that’s right for your members - not a show and tell session but something that gives union's with little to no GIAG provision some tools to take away to develop their own initiative.

·         Student Media - we don't have budget or the staff knowledge - but we want to support it on campus, things to think about, tools to use.

·         Alumni members - Charity law, SU responsibilities, benefits, challenges.

We are also looking at creating time to have discussions around different topics that people would like to talk about, share best practice or work through a problem but these might not fit/require a full sessions for example - Room booking/space management and financial management etc. Please let us know if you would like us to add something in to this list and we can pull out some reoccurring themes and coordinate at the conference - we may also ask some of you to facilitate these discussions.

We would welcome sessions from first time presenters and will work with proposers to develop their sessions. If you have an idea for a session complete this form here: https://www.nusforms.org.uk/mach1/machform/view.php?id=191098
