Although I would have no chance of knowing what goes on behind the scenes we do know the company whose founder was behind the creation of the event is a publisher of corporate magazines. We know too that in the past some literary magazines here and elsewhere had funding from the intelligence services.
That's all in the public domain, hence the collective 'we'.
