Postdoctoral Research Fellow - 'Digital Milk Production'
In Brief
The 'Digital Milk Production' research project explores the potential of new digital technologies for improving efficiency and
animal welfare in pasture-based milk production. The deployed sensors generate large quantities of diverse data for whose
assessment you will use the latest data-analysis methods and develop new analytical approaches. The aim is to provide
decision-support systems for the agricultural sector, in order to improve the competitiveness of farms.
Tasks
- Analysis of continuously collected spatio-temporal sensor data via RumiWatch, Grasshopper and SmartBow for the
development of decision-support systems in pasture-based milk production
- Development of forage-supply and feed-intake models based on continuously collected data
- Analysis of existing historical datasets from the above-mentioned sensor data
- Experimental design within the context of the project
- Publication of current research results in national and international specialist journals
Requirements
- PhD in Biostatistics or Natural Sciences with very good data-analysis skills
- In-depth knowledge of statistical programming, self-learning systems and modelling
- Experience of publication in international peer-reviewed journals
- Performance-oriented, good team working and communication skills
- Enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team
- GIS knowledge an advantage
- Good knowledge of English as well as an additional official Swiss language besides German an advantage
(working language is German)

Public Management. Part of the Swiss Federal Administration, Agroscope is attached to the Federal Department of
Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER. Agroscope is headquartered in Bern-Liebefeld and carries out its
activities at a number of sites in Switzerland.
The 'Automation and Labour Organisation' Research Group at the Tänikon site (Ettenhausen, canton of Thurgau) deals
with smart farming and work science issues in agriculture.
