MEDICAL STATISTICIAN: Surrey Clinical Research Centre
Closing Date:

Wednesday 16 May 2018

We are looking for an individual with a background in clinical trials and academic clinical research to join our team at the Surrey Clinical Research Centre (CRC) and provide statistical support to our trials and academic research strengths in sleep, circadian rhythms and other areas.

The CRC is an MHRA Phase I accredited unit specializing in sleep, vaccine and oncology trials which is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and is situated on the University Manor Park site close to the main University campus. The University is world-leading in sleep research and the facilities for conducting and analysing clinical sleep assessments are housed within the CRC. The CRC works closely with the Surrey Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) in delivering a portfolio of clinical trials across all phases, both industry and publicly funded, and in a number of therapeutic areas.

In conjunction with the Senior Statistician, the post holder will be responsible for the statistical aspects of the design, analysis and reporting of clinical trials conducted by the CRC and CTU. In addition, the post holder will be expected to lead on the statistical and reporting components of all academic research conducted within the CRC. Currently, this work will predominantly involve sleep/circadian rhythms and will support our planned development in dementia research. In addition, the post holder will be expected to provide statistical support to other research areas across the University. As such, the post holder will be expected to interact closely with the Surrey CRC and CTU teams, Director of Sleep/Wake Research at CRC, Principal Investigators, and academics/clinicians within the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine and beyond. In particular, it is hoped that the post holder will develop a close working relationship with the bioinformatics team in the handling of big datasets.

Applicants should hold a PhD or MSc in a relevant area and have experience in the conduct, analysis and interpretation of clinical trials and human research. They should have knowledge of programming in SAS, R or Stata and excellent communication skills. Previous experience in sleep and EEG signal analysis is desirable.

Our benefits package includes generous annual leave entitlement, relocation assistance where applicable, childcare assistance and leisure facilities.

For an informal discussion of the post please contact Dr Vikki Revell, Head of Research and Study Management, on [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or Professor Derk-Jan Dijk, Director of Sleep/Wake Research on [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
