2018 Bradford Hill Memorial Lecture
Statistical Challenges in Infectious Disease Research: From HIV to Dengue

Speaker: Professor Nicholas P. Jewell
Date: Wednesday, 06 June at 5:00pm
Venue: LSHTM, John Snow Lecture Theatre

Abstract: Research into the prevention of infectious diseases presents distinct statistical challenges arising from both observational and experimental studies including intervention trials. I will describe some of these, historically with HIV and leading to a large ongoing trial to reduce infection from dengue fever in Indonesia. Statisticians need many tools to tackle these problems including an understanding of sampling biases in survival data and the role of randomisation, permutation tests, and other aspects of causal inference.

The 2018 lecture will also be Professor Jewel's Inaugural Lecture at the School. More information about Professor Jewell can be found here<https://works.bepress.com/nicholas_jewell/>.

Event is free, but please register here<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/2018-bradford-hill-memorial-lecture-tickets-44017681069>.

The lecture will be followed by a reception in the South Courtyard Cafe.
