This position provides an excellent opportunity to study for an MSc in Medical Statistics and gain research experience developing and applying statistical methods in epidemiology. The post will suit someone with good quantitative skills wishing to re-train in medical statistics or update their skills following a career break. Funds are available to cover fees for an MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Leicester (or a similar course subject to the offer of a place), and to provide a salary for the training fellow for 2 years, including the period of MSc study. The Training Fellow will be based at the University of Bristol and may either take an MSc for the first year followed by a year of research work, or study part-time concurrently with research work over 2-years. It is expected that the dissertation component of the MSc will be co-supervised by the University of Bristol and MRC Biostatistics Unit at Cambridge and be related to the fellow’s programme of research work. The fellow will work on a project to estimate the number of people who inject drugs (PWID) and learn how to use these in the estimation of prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) or HIV using Multi-Parameter Evidence Synthesis (MPES) models. The post holder will be join the Multi-Parameter Evidence Synthesis research group based in the department of Population Health Sciences in the Bristol Medical School. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with other experts in MPES methods and HCV epidemiology at University of Cambridge, Public Health England, and Health Protection Scotland.
