Dear Justin,

Could I just confirm the time 1.00 to 3.30am BST for the first work-shop? I appreciate that this might be correct with the international audience, but could you confirm?

Regards,

Subject: CARES Update - online training workshop 'Incorporating Middle-Range Theory in Realist Evaluation and Synthesis'

Dear Colleagues,

I am hosting on-line training workshop in June on how to incorporate middle-range theory (MRT) in realist evaluation and synthesis. It is common to experience a lack of clarity around how to develop, mine, test, and integrate programme and middle-range theories in the inquiry process. Yet the process of theorizing  holds the potential for producing “ontologically deep” analyses that can unravel complexity knots and offer solutions to entrenched problems. Please see description below for more detail.

Please note there are two time cohorts for the workshop.

More information can be found below, and under the ReMOTE tab at www.realistmethodology-cares.org.

Sincerely

Justin

Description:

This 2.5 hour online training webinar will explain how to incorporate middle-range theory (MRT) in applications of Realist Methodology. In evaluating programmes (e.g., policies, services, guidelines), Pawson and Tilley (1997) have argued for the importance of theorizing the logic of programmes in relation to ‘what works, for whom, under what circumstances, and how.’

This may involve using a creative retroductive process to develop original theory statements or to pool from the existing theoretical literature or a combination of the two. The aim of this webinar is to increase capacity for incorporating MRT in project design and analysis.

Through this webinar participants will learn about the definitions of realist programme theory and MRT, explore the steps involved in theory development and testing and gain an appreciation of the process through numerous examples. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and submit examples from work-in-progress for feedback.

The webinar is open to anyone however some basic understanding of realist concepts will be beneficial. Participants new to realist methodology can view the following video for an introductory overview in advance of the workshop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=11&v=QrneOfFXzx0

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the training.
