Post-doc position in spectroscopy of foldamer molecules

A post-doctoral position in the field of spectroscopy of flexible molecules is open in the “BioMolecular Group” (Dr. Michel Mons), at CEA Paris-Saclay, France, in collaboration with the groups of Pr. D.J. Aitken (CNRS, Orsay), and Dr. A. Zehnacker (CNRS, Orsay).

Topic: The project TUNIFOLDS, funded by the French Research Funding Agency, aims at conceiving innovative building blocks of foldamers, based on peptides containing Sheteroatoms, synthesized in the group of D. Aitken at the University of Orsay. The driving

idea is to document both theoretically and experimentally the intramolecular interactions at play in the isolated building blocks of foldamers, in order to infer the way they can combine in di-, tri- and oligomers to form original secondary structures. The applicant will be responsible

for laser (IR and UV) spectroscopy of the isolated building blocks and of their oligomers, carried out in Saclay. He/she will also be in charge of the Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy of these species in the Zehnacker group, in Orsay, and will also carry

out the quantum chemistry calculations required to interpret the spectral data.

Profile: The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in a relevant area of chemical physics since no more than 2 years. He/she will have prior experience in gas phase techniques, including high vacuum, lasers (mandatory), spectroscopic techniques and mass

spectrometry. Experience in the study of biomolecules is not mandatory but will be an asset, as well as background in theoretical approaches to electronic structure and force field calculations.
