Hi Peter,
Our video edit suites use Premiere on PCs, all editing done to an NSS share from OES2015. Whilst performance is ok, as files get bigger the waiting gets longer.
Not being video editors, we've done some experiments copying of a student's Adobe Premiere project (955 files, totalling 11.6GB) up and down from the network and have found that copying files to and from W2012R2 servers is about 50% quicker than copying to and from OES2015. The servers are 10Gb connected VMs, the clients are 1Gb connected W10. We even plugged a startech 10Gb card in the clients and whilst it's quicker, it doesn't quite justify the expense!
Based on these numbers, I'm tempted to spin up a Windows server for video editing storage!
Regards,
Anthony

Hi All,
Hope you had a good Easter break.
We're looking at refreshing some of our Mac video editing rooms and I'm keen to move over to Windows 10 PCs. For those of you who have video editing suites, could you answer the following questions for me:
1) Are you using PCs or Macs?
2) What video editing package are you using (e.g. Final Cut or Adobe Premiere)?
2) Are users saving video files locally or on a file server (OES or Windows)?
3) If using a file server, how is the performance with many simultaneous users editing videos?
Many Thanks
