I trust you didn't have any *units* stolen

Cue collective groan from the list, or completely blank looks! And it's only Monday :D

Dear Graham,

Good morning.

I just wanted to say that I work at The Museum of English Rural Life in Reading and two weeks ago we had a museum late digital takeover event whereby one of the activities was an Augmented Reality Bird trail. We used some Android tablets which we handed out to visitors on the evening free of charge.

We used a simple method. We had a member of staff stationed at the entrance of the galleries and handing the tablets as requested by the interested visitor. The tablets were numbered 1, 2, 3 and we asked the visitors to give us a key/keys that they had with them which we then put in a key safe along with a previously numbered keyring nametag as 1,2,3. This helped us to identify and match the corresponding tablet to the corresponding visitor's key which he/she gets back when returning the tablet after completing the AR trail and before leaving the museum.

This system worked really well for us on the evening and was not expensive. The only improvement we would like to make is to be able to offer more tablets pre-loaded with the AR software as they were in great demand.

We did not ask for any credit card, driving licence or passport which contain personal details.

I hope this is useful although I understand that your preference is to use a credit card swipe system.

Best wishes,

Nitisha
