Archival Practices in Medieval Flanders

Prof. De Paermentier will deliver a class on the archival practices of medieval Flanders. This will cover documentary writing practices and pragmatic literacy in the Middle Ages, the typology (and functions) of medieval documentary sources stored in archives, and how to study medieval documentary writing processes, with case studies of archival practices in medieval Ghent (City Counsil), the Bijloke abbey, and the archives of the Counts of Flanders. The class will also look at archival development in modern times.

All welcome. There is no need to register.
