The candidate will take a leading role in a research project devoted to developing advanced photonic technologies that will drive new generation instrumentation for astrophysical discovery. The exquisite control in the manipulation of light afforded by photonic technologies allows completely novel architectures to be brought to the service of astronomical measurement. This position requires interdisciplinary skills spanning astrophysics, instrumentation, computer control and numerical algorithms implemented in custom software in order to interpret the resulting data. Research will be conducted in the world class Sydney Astronomical Instrumentation Laboratories (SAIL), with expected final deployment of working instrumentation with project partners at the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii.
