Hi,
I wonder if someone can help me locate a reference.
Hrabanus Maurus returned to Fulda in 802. Between 802 and 806 he taught in the abbey school. Ratger, the abbot since 802, deprived of his books in 806, which occasioned a poem by Hrabanus (no. 20, MGH, Poetae Aevi Carolingi 2 [1884], pp.
185-186) asking that these be returned. These appear to have included notebooks from his time with Alcuin in Tours.
I distinctly recall reading somewhere that even in the 820’s, two decades later, he was still smarting under this action. If memory serves, he is writing to a fellow monk who is going through a difficult time, and recalling his own time
of troubles when Ratger was abbot.
Can someone pull that reference out of somewhere, someone with a better memory and filing system than I seem to have?
Thanks in advance.
