Dear MeCCSA,

I’m delighted to announce the launch of ‘UK Feature Docs’ (2018-2020), a new AHRC-funded study of the feature documentary film industry in the UK. More information about the project is available on our website at https://ukfd.org.uk/ and you can follow updates on Facebook and Twitter @UKFeatureDocs.

The project is led by myself and Professor Andrew Spicer at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), with the support of the British Film Institute, Creative England and a fantastic range of individuals and organisations from across the UK’s feature docs industry (see the Team and Partners pages on the site for more details). The project has three core objectives:

1)      Industry Landscapes:

To work with key organisations from across the industry’s subsectors to map the industry and analyse its operation.

2)      Industry Contexts:

To historicise the formation of the UK’s feature documentary industry and explore the key factors that have shaped its development.

3)      Industry Futures:

To investigate the criticisms and challenges that the UK feature documentary industry faces and explore how these might be addressed.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any queries or questions about the project, and watch this space!

Best wishes,

Steve Presence
