The NERC Research Associates' Programme is an initiative which is intended to offer individuals the opportunity to gain practical experience of working within a Research Institute, whilst acquiring specialist and wider skills that will be valuable in a range of careers.
The programme is aimed particularly at those who have recently completed postgraduate studies, but is open to individuals from other backgrounds and of all ages. Individuals will work on highly topical research projects, both important for future research within the environmental research community and appropriate to their backgrounds. Research Associates are given specific, measurable objectives which will be intended to develop their skills as a researcher and to demonstrate their suitability for a research career.
We are seeking a suitable applicant with good relational database and GIS skills who would be keen to exploit training opportunities in novel approaches to integrated spatial data analysis and statistical techniques. You will be the primary data specialist embedded in a large team delivering an exciting new programme to monitor the environment in Wales involving 18 organisations.
You will be responsible for spatial data interrogation and analysis, the creation of automated data processing and analysis scripts and further development of an existing bespoke data processing library.
It is essential that you have a a post-graduate degree in GIS or spatial data management or equivalent experience as well as experience with RDBMS (spatial) databases including knowledge of SQL. A PhD is desirable but not essential.
You will have knowledge of spatial data analysis techniques and the ability to process and analyse data in a robust and reproducible manner using Python or R to enable automation of key processing steps.
An aptitude for learning new technologies and techniques for analysing, processing and disseminating environmental data is also essential.
