Dear All,

I'm posting a request from a colleague, Jess Smith at the University of Manchester.

All very best,
Emma

Hello,

I’m the archivist for the Christian Brethren Archive, and I was wondering if I might ask for your assistance on a project that I’m working on.
I’ve recently co-ordinated the digitisation of a collection of lantern slides held in the archive, which were created by mission workers in China, India and on the African continent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Unfortunately, cataloguing these slides is proving to be difficult, as we have very little contextual information about them, and haven't been able to identify some of the activities/locations/individuals they depict.
I was hoping that someone might be able to assist, either in identifying the cultural practices, or the locations?

Please see below a link to the lantern slides:  http://luna.manchester.ac.uk/luna/servlet/view/search;JSESSIONID=917f0810-1771-4e32-bb38-a85b69399993?q=Echoes+of+Service+mission+organisation&sort=reference_number%2Cimage_sequence_number&os=0&pgs=250&res=1&cic=nonconform%7E91%7E1

I’ve also written a blog post about some of the challenges I’m encountering: https://rylandscollections.wordpress.com/2018/02/05/the-language-of-catalogue-descriptions/

Any suggestions would be gratefully received, my contact email is: [log in to unmask]
Many Thanks
Best Wishes
Jess
