medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi again,
My friend is not happy with the "Anima Christi" option, and having now identified her source, the more reliable of the two annal texts involved says nothing about an indulgence but speaks rather of an office of the cross (again attributed to Pope Johannes). Did he, in fact, either compose, or indulgence, anyething that could be called "Horae de passione domini" or "De sancte cruce"? It actually looks as if there is an Icelandic ms. containiing the latter (BL Add 4895) and assigning it a one-year papal indulgence. I have not been able to check the ms.
Meg
Actually you and Rosemary are probably right, and with that title I was able to find an article by Jeffrey Rogers about precisely this prayer in a volume called 'Poverty and Devotion in mendicant Cultures´ published by Routledge in 2016 (easily found by googling).
Thanks to both of you,
Meg
medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture******************************Greetings all,
I have an Icelandic reference to 'prayers pertaining to the passion of Christ, formulated/offered by the pope, with a great indulgence' which arrived in Iceland in the year 1330. Can anyone suggest what this might be? I am aware that there are plenty of indulgences supposedly from the pope but which are not, in fact, papal, and I suspect it may be one of these.
Thanks,Meg
