medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Marco,

For bathing in the blood of Christ see /L'Art Religieux de la Fin //du
Moyen Age en France/ by Emile Male pp. 105-118: the themes of the
Fountain of Life and the Wine Press seem to overlap. There are several
very graphic pictures.

The two themes are brought into close proximity in

Ut plena sit redemptio
Sub /torculari/ stringitur,
Suique Jesus immemor,
Sibi nil reservat Sanguinis.
Venite, quotquot criminum
Funesta labes inficit:
In hoc salutis /balneo/
Qui se lavat, mundabitur.

There might be something in a commentator on Psalm 23 (22) v. 5 (LXX)
/to poterion sou methuskon hos cratiston/. /Methusko/ is normally to
make drunk but it seems that it can mean overflow and if combined with a
eucharistic interpretation of the verse could lead, I suppose, to the
idea of bathing in the blood of Christ.

Apologies if these points have already been mentioned.
