Hi Bryony,

Have you adjusted the default power saving settings on the tablets? By default, they have a screen timeout which will shut down the screen after a predefined period of time. On the Fire tablets, you should be able to go to settings > display > timeout and adjust the timeout to "never". In Windows, there is  presentation mode which disables notifications as well as screen savers and power saving:

Hope this helps.

Best,

Subject: Display iPads switching off

Hi all,

We’ve recently launched a new exhibition at the Crick and have used two different types of tablets in the gallery – Lenovo Tab3 Essentials and Amazon Fire HD. We are using them just to play films on loop, and are leaving the exhibition switched on 24/7. Alas, they keep randomly switching off despite us making sure they are on aeroplane mode, plugged in to charge, and screen-locked to stop visitors being able to use them. Other screens and lightboxes are using the same power source so we know there isn’t an issue with the power supply.

I wondered if anyone on this mailing list has had experience of working with these models or similar issues at all? We are drawing quite a blank…

Many thanks,

Bryony
