As a former teacher I often find websites with teacher's resources are the
best for this. I used them years ago and haven't really stopped because I
still find the content useful/adaptable, plus it's good to know what's
going on.

They let you know when most of the key events are taking place and they
also give you a few of the lesser known celebrations. Some of the items
marked on their calendar are irrelevant for me now.
I guess it depends what part of the sector you're working in and who your
audience is?

One of my favourites is: http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/events (but that's
a personal preference).
