Don’t mention the war; how we talk about conflict in museums

GEM (Scotland) and Highland Museum Forum @ Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Inverness

Talking about conflict can be challenging in museums, this conference is aimed at inspiring confidence and encouraging you to be brave when approaching projects and programmes.

Throughout the day there will be sessions thinking about programming sensitively and speakers; including Dr Jenny Kidd (editor of Challenging History in the Museum); and Dr Iain Robertson, Reader in History from University of Highlands and Islands will be exploring how and if museums deal with difficult histories.

Over the day you will find out about the new Highland project ‘Coming home; Impact of the First World War in the Highlands' from the artists Catriona Meighan, Robyn Woolston and researcher/interpreter Kerry Duncan; and how learning programming was developed for Fort George from heritage learning professionals Gillian MacNee and Katey Boal.
