This is an excellent thread, and thank you for pointing out to GEM list subscribers that you can view past messages to the list.
You don’t have to login at all, and you can also search using keywords and so on.
You can use the web address Emma pointed out, or here is a direct link:
https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/GEM.html
In fact, as a subscriber, you don't need a password or login at all.
You can join, leave or change settings for the GEM list by sending email commands to this address:
For example, anyone can join for free at any time (you don't have to be a member of GEM, just have an interest in 'education in museums') by sending this message:
Join GEM Firstname Secondname
Send only the text above, without email signature etc. The title of the email doesn’t matter. Send it to [log in to unmask]
When you are going on holiday or have an out of office message for some other reason, you can send this message:
Set GEM nomail
When you get back:
Set GEM mail
You don’t 'miss' any messages by doing this as they are all available via main GEM list web page as above.
Finally, if you need to change your email address, but stay subscribed to GEM, just send your new email address like this:
CHANGE GEM [log in to unmask]

If you click on that link it'll take you to the web version of the email list where you should be able to find the thread you want and access attachments, though you may have to login. If you have any trouble then email me and I'll
happily send them to you.
